There are many ingrained assumptions about how sound and movement should relate in contemporary dance – both institutionally inherited assumptions, and those maintained by our own knowledge or biases. This workshop aspires to open possibilities for inquisitive and co-creationary relationships between sound and dance, by testing assumptions through playful embodied listening exercises. These will also contextualise a more technical understanding of how sound can be transmitted through a body, space or audience. Participants should be prepared to move their bodies to engage with some of the workshop tasks and so should wear appropriate clothes.

In 2024, STRUT Dance and The Blue Room Theatre introduce a series of eight Production Skills workshops.

The workshops are practice-based sessions aimed to assist independent makers in all the things they are required to do in and around their productions but might not have had the training to do so.

Each workshop will focus on a different element of production including sound, finance, writing, cultural awareness, lighting, and dramaturgy.
