Throughout my 2023 mid-career residency project, Your Place, I spoke with 52 participants about their connections with nature. My 8 weeks in the studio incorporated poetry writing and capturing of movement with long exposure photography to communicate the depth of these conversations. The work’s research and creative output arrived at a narrative evoking deep connections with collective ancestry. At the forefront of the project now is the beautiful idea that we are all ancient, a product of the histories of everyone and everywhere we experience. I will be sharing poetry and photographic prints from my residency. We will then play with some of the ideas underpinning the work and create our own movement portraits. Please bring something to write with.

Practice Sharing is an arena to enter into artistic dialogue, an opportunity to share skills, a space for physical thinking, and a way to engage in different creative practices.

Facilitated by established local dance artists and visiting guest artists, the sessions are presented in an open, workshop-style format that may move between dancing, writing, choreographic research and discussion.
