From 7 to 10 February 2024, five dance and movement artists presented new ten-minute works in 600 Seconds – MOVES. Curated and mentored by STRUT Co-Directors James O’Hara and Sofie Burgoyne, the program showcased the breadth of Western Australian movement practice through improvisation, dance theatre, voice, projection and physical storytelling.

Echoes of Expansion

Echoes of Expansion explored landscapes and the ways the rhythms of different spaces and places could shape our movement and trajectories.

Moving Words

Through writing, dancing and voice, Lara Dorling created a solo improvised performance guided by deep listening. Moving Words asked what stories might emerge when we paid attention to the words arriving in the mind.

The Mist

A figure sensed a fog forming before him and followed his instincts in an attempt to unravel it. The Mist explored uncertainty, discovery and whether the truth concealed within the unknown could be endured.

Risk pas de deux

A man concealed his true feelings around a friend in this tender ballet examining the risk of moving beyond isolation. Drawing on realism and dialectical theatre, Risk pas de deux explored vulnerability, self-image and emotional connection.

The Scramble

Drawing on the friction and physicality of wrestling, The Scramble examined the codes of touch and intimacy within male relationships. The dance theatre work moved between competition, resistance and connection.
