SITU-8 Curator/Producer call-out 2022-2024

SITU-8 is an annual performance platform that showcases a season of new, short site-specific dance works by a range of emerging and experienced independent WA choreographers and composers. The resulting performance is a dynamic blend of dance, music and architecture situated in the heart of Perth and surrounding suburbs. The inaugural program (previously titled In Situ) was curated and produced by Unkempt Dance in 2014.

Founded by STRUT Dance and Unkempt Dance as a developmental model for artists and emerging producers, SITU-8 is staged in a different site each year. Curators of SITU-8 are responsible for coordinating the artist call-out and selection panel, managing the rehearsal and development process, liaising with venues, assisting with promoting the shows and developing marketing collateral, and managing the performance season. SITU-8 2022 is currently scheduled for 15 August 24-September. Applicants must be willing to make themselves available during the season to reasonably manage rehearsals and the performance season.

STRUT Dance is currently accepting applications for the role of Curator/Producer for 2022-2024. You may apply individually or as a curatorial duo. If you apply individually, you will be paired with an applicant with complementary skills in this area. Applications will be assessed by the current curators, and representatives from STRUT Dance and TURA New Music.

Criteria:

Candidates should be -

  •  interested in developing their skills as emerging curators and producers in a site-specific context.

  •  willing to promote and foster others - a large part of the curatorial process is to offer advice and help to facilitate other choreographers’ works.

  •  skilled in grant and acquittal writing, as well as creating and assessing applications. STRUT Dance and the previous curators will assist in the handover/development of these skills.

  •  pro-active and self-reliant, with good time management and organisational skills.

  •  approachable and friendly with a capacity to negotiate around venue hire, fees and production with partner organisations. STRUT Dance and the previous curators will assist in the handover of these skills.

  •  aware that STRUT Dance and TURA New Music are the final executives on this project.

  •  a current STRUT Dance member, or willing to become one.

Previous experience in producing or curating work will be looked on favourably.
