SAM FOX is an artist living in Boorloo upon Whadjuk Nyoongar Country. Sam originally trained as a contemporary dancer at WAAPA (2002) but he now works across many types of performance, writes speculative and literary fiction, and spends a lot of time developing collaborative cultural projects using a peer-to-peer approach.

For a decade (2006-2016), Sam directed company Hydra Poesis, creating political theatre and performance art for local, national and international platforms. Sam is an alum’ of the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship, has a Masters of Teaching by Research from Deakin has just finished a Ph.D. in creative writing at the University of Western Australia. He currently works as a lecturer in WAAPA’s Bachelor of Performing Arts course and is a producer with My Studio’s Performance Maker’s Collective.

Other recent roles include: facilitator of the STRUT Mid-Career Choreographic Laboratory; performer in Laura Boynes’ Subliminal Drift; co-facilitator of the 2023 Perth Festival Lab and its Critical Club; collaborator with artists Patrick Carter and Kelton Pell on Kaya Boodja for the WA Museum; co-producer of Rachel Arianne Ogle’s And The Earth Will Swallow Them Whole (Perth Festival 2022); and artistic director of the Experience Collider project with DADAA and Circus WA (State Theatre Centre 2019).
