Soetkin Jacobs' talent was recognised at a very young age after convincing her parents she started her professional dance education at the Royal Balletschool of Antwerp.
Following her graduation she continued her studies at The National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam.
Only one year later she was accepted as an aspirant at the Dutch National Ballet dancing in major ballets like the Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella and Onegin.
She was also hand picked to dance in a Christina de Chatel creation and in 'The Cage' by Jerome Robins, which was a great experience.
Dancing more contemporary work, Soetkin discovered her passion and talent for modern dance and started an intensive training with MODEM (Modern Dance Education) at the Zappala Danza company in Sicily, Italy. Returning to Amsterdam she continued her path as a freelancer with Speed Productions and PresentDance.
Open to new challenges she accepted the role of Iris in the hit musical 'Fame' which toured around Holland and Belgium for over a year.
Soetkin is a versatile, open minded dancer who is always looking for new ways to express herself so it was to nobody's surprise that an opera was added to her list. Working with Stijn Celis in 'Samson & Dalila' she experienced as a great gift. The journey continued with the musical 'Chicago' where she played murderess Annie and was first understudy of the lead-role Mama Morton. Singing solo with no dance steps to hide behind, she felt as one of the most 'terrifying-exciting' things she has ever done on stage.
Swapping her heels for pointeshoes she re-found her 'inner ballerina' as the daughter of the Sheik in 'Abdallah en de Gazelle van Basra' performed by De Dutch Don't Dance Devision.
But for Soetkin, the most interesting and inspiring work by far was with internationally respected choreographer Paul Selwyn Norton on his latest creation 'Rite We Are' produced by Korzo Theatre Den Haque. Here, her heart was set to invest most of her time in Contemporary Dance…
In 2011, Soetkin had the honor to receive a Grant from 'Fund for the Performing Arts' to attend a dance study investigation at Dance New Amsterdam in New York.
She also was accepted for an acting course at the prestigious Stella Adler school of acting (NYC).
Unexpectedly she was selected out of hundreds of dancers to work with world famous photographer David LaChapelle and up and coming choreographer John Byrne in the dance piece/ art installation 'Transcending form' which had its premiere in June '11 at Theater 80, NYC. A dream come true!!!
Back in Amsterdam, she performed in 'Ne me Quitte pas' by choreographer: Isabelle Beernaerts and reached the Finals in 'The Ultimate Dance Battle' a TV dance competition broadcasted in The Netherlands and Belgium.
Since 2012 she is full-time engaged with the International Dance Theatre (IDT) based in Amsterdam
She danced in 'Mannen van de Tango' by Neel Verdoorn and 'Zonnekoningen' by director Jan Linkens. Tours include Indonesia and Mexico.
Now she is touring with the company in the new production called 'SILK' and 'Si Lin' by Jan linkens and later this year she will be working with Vasco Wellenkamp on 'FADO'.
