Richard Cilli

Richard began dancing in 1999 with STEPS Youth Dance Company, where he danced until 2006. He studied at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he undertook an exchange to Taipei National University of the Arts. He joined Sydney Dance Company in 2009 and won the Helpmann Award for best male dancer in 2010 for his performance in Rafael Bonachela’s We Unfold. He worked with guest choreographers Kenneth Kvarnström, Adam Linder, Emanuel Gat, and Jacopo Godani. Richard worked in London for Alexander Whitley in 2013, and in 2014 joined K. Kvarnström & Co in Stockholm. As a choreographer Richard has created work for Sydney Dance Company, STRUT dance, ABC’s Dance Academy, and the Australian Ballet’s 2014 Bodytorque season. Returning to SDC in 2015 he has performed and toured the works of a range of internationally renowned choreographers including William Forsythe, Alexander Ekman, Gideon Obarzanek and Gabrielle Nankivell. Richard’s new work for SDC, Hinterland, premiered at Carriageworks November 29 2016. In 2017 Richard joins Lucy Guerin Inc. for their European tour of Motion Picture.
