Katy teaches STRUT Public Dance Classes, more HERE
Katy is originally from the Netherlands where she discovered her love of dance in ballet classes at a young age. While training at the Amsterdam School of the Arts she also discovered the world of contemporary dance. She continued her dance training with influential teachers in New York City, Vienna and London where she graduated in 2011 from Trinity Laban – Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
As a dance artist and teacher Katy enjoys exploring aspects of what dance and the arts can mean to individuals, their health and their communities around the world. She has taught for several companies and arts organizations including Dance Ability (UK/ Austria), Rosetta Life and Lifedance (UK), Broadway Dance Academy and the Vienna International School (Austria) and Artists Striving to End Poverty (USA/ India).
In 2013 her journey led her to Perth, where she danced with the post-graduate dance company LINK at WAAPA. Since moving to Perth she has been an integral part of the Perth Dance community and continued her professional development as a teacher with the Perth Garuda Movement as well as Ausdance WA and STRUT. Currently STRUT is teaching a variety of dance styles and working with young and old across Perth.
What to expect in Katy’s classes:
Katy enjoys exploring the natural movement patterns of the body and its relation to breath, musicality and space. She challenges your coordination and creates fun phrases that will incorporate changes of direction or moving the arms and legs in different ways at the same time. The Laban movement principles as well as Limón dance principles are often present within her classes. Katy caters to a wide variety of movers, all of whom inevitably having a good time moving their bodies in space.
