Eve Newton-Johnson is an emerging independent dancer and maker from Perth. Eve was awarded the STEPS Youth Dance Company’s annual scholarship in 2012, which she used to participate in the American Dance Festival. That year she also sat as Company Representative on the STEPS Board.
Eve created a duet, we’re standing on the moon, staring at the sun, with Madison Phillips, which was presented at the Short and Sweet Festival in Melbourne in 2013. In 2014, Eve received a grant from Propel Youth Arts in Perth in order to develop and present her work everything’s coming up roses in the 2015 Fringeworld Festival. In 2015 this work was presented as part of a double bill, As Much Again, at Dancehouse during Melbourne Fringe Festival. In January 2016 Eve presented her university graduate piece (screaming) at the 2016 Fringeworld Festival in Perth with Melbourne artists Celia Hepburn and Brydie O’Brien. Most recently Eve collaborated with Zoe Wozniak to present womb as part of STRUT Dance’s In SITU at the State Theatre Centre of WA, and in early 2017 Eve worked with Sophia Natale to present their interdisciplinary work The Art of Intimacy at Fringeworld Perth, with a sold out season.
