Emily Bowman is an independent dance artist newly based in Melbourne, after having spent almost a decade in Perth where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Dance at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts). Her artistic practice is grounded in Contact Improvisation and real-time choreography where loss, vulnerability and resilience are recurrent themes and her ongoing interest when making work.
Emily teaches regularly across Australia, and has taught/performed in Malaysia, India, British Columbia, Germany and the United States. She is a co-producer of the Australian Contact Improvisation Convergence (ACIC); an annual national event bringing 120 dancers together from around Australasia. Em is currently in Perth choreographing a new work for the first year BA students at WAAPA, and will return at the end of the year to complete her Strut Dance seed residency with collaborating artists Jacob Lehrer & Joey Lehrer.
